VirginiaSeniorServices.com was originally conceived as static online version of the Senior Advocate Resource Guide — which for the past four years and a circulation of over 40,000 per/year has become an invaluable tool for seniors and their families in the community. But we realized that the functionality a website could offer, that the once per/year resource guide could not, made for a great opportunity. One that, if done right, would be a valuable and unique tool for seniors and their family members in the community. This was something that had to be pursued.
So instead of a static website, We thought instead, why not create a site that is as easy to search as Google, but with a tailored set of content (some not even available on Google) specific to South Eastern Virginia; produced and maintained by people who live there and with the ability and desire to keep the information as current as possible. Not having a fixed publishing schedule means every service that should be included is included and their various bits of information (phone number, website address, location) are as current as we can make it.
It's not enough to merely have a directory of service providers. People need to be able to quickly and with as little effort possible, access the content. Too many sites are cluttered with sometimes seemingly endless paragraphs of text and menu after menu of possible categories and subcategories to choose from, just to find the service provider one's looking for. The amount of time and calories burnt is unnecessary.
Our goal is to eliminate all of that unnecessary work. We have worked very hard to make the site as intuitive and easy to use as possible. We've made sure to keep everything clean and simple. Everything has it's place and whatever doesn't have a place, isn't on the site. The type is large where it needs to be because the content is the focus. We've also made sure the site is constructed in a way that is as accessible and usable for those with disabilities as possible. If we've succeeded, it shouldn't take you but a few keystrokes and two mouse click to find and get to what you're looking for. Every page, every color, every font choice and size, every word of description text has been carefully considered to hopefully, reaches this goal.
As great as all of that sounds, if you don't agree and the site isn't as intuitive as it could be, then the fault is ours, not yours. It means we have more work to do and we plan on doing it (we have lots more great ideas). Please let us know how we're doing by sending us an email.
With all of that written, ultimately, we would like the site to be a place where seniors, their family and anyone in the community (or out), know they can go for fast and easy access to senior service providers in Hampton Roads.

More about Senior Advocate, LLC....
Senior Advocate, LLC began in 2004 as a geriatric care management company based in Williamsburg, Virginia. Our goals were to help families deal with the challenges of aging through comprehensive assessment and care management.
Relatively soon into our endeavors, we realized that there was a need for a all-inclusive publication that listed major health care services in our geographic area so we began publishing the Senior Advocate Resource Guide (which covers the Peninsula, Middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck.)
The 2009 issue is our fourth annual publication and we are pleased to partner with both our local area agencies on aging to make sure this publication reaches its intended audience. We also distribute the Resource Guide in all health care facilities, any other businesses listed on this site, and at the following locations on the Peninsula:
